I need to find a "scholarly journal" article for my class. What is a scholarly journal?

Contrasting Sources: In general, scholarly articles are viewed as having more authoritative information. This is why instructors often request "scholarly journals." You may also see the terms "peer-reviewed" or "refereed." For the purpose of this tutorial, we will consider the three terms as equivalent. In comparison, "popular" magazines are viewed as less credible and are geared towards a general readership.

This chart gives several important characteristics of each type of publication.

SCHOLARLY POPULAR
The author is an expert in the field Could be basically anyone
Very little advertising Significant advertising
Advanced reading levels with specialized vocabulary Basic reading level for a generalized audience
Often has a more serious tone Broad and simple, to be understood by all
Articles are reviewed by peers or experts in the field Editorial staff of the magazine reviews articles
